Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

How PRP works.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has helped us treat countless patients with musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative conditions. It is a therapy that we are passionate about and reflects the underlying philosophy of Philadelphia Smart Pain & Wellness of boosting health and addressing the causes of pain.

PRP is a regenerative medicine technique that uses the body’s natural healing capacity to improve joint health. PRP is harvested by drawing blood from the vein and then it is placed in a centrifuge machine to concentrate the platelets and plasma products in the blood that have therapeutic benefits.

Thousands of studies have shown that when the platelet portion of the blood is concentrated at 5 times normal, it may be injected into a problematic area of the body to relieve pain and improve function. It is this high concentration that makes it Platelet-Rich and the suspension in the golden yellow Plasma portion of the blood that is separated from the red blood cells, which provides the name Platelet Rich Plasma.

Philly Smart Pain and Wellness embraces the art in medicine. We have spent time and energy into creating our own protocol of creating PRP in a sterile and cost-effective manner as well as combing our injections into a multidisciplinary rehab based program. We are excited to see the wonderful benefits in numerous patients that were provided this therapy.

In our experience, patients do best through a series of three of these injections. The goal of the injection is to repair injured tissue and improve the underlying health of a joint or muscle tendon. It does this by using the body’s natural healing properties. Unlike a steroid injection or nerve block that intends to directly decrease pain, PRP attempts to improve the underlying problem. Our results have helped so many patients avoid surgery, return to work after living in pain for a long period of time and avoid dangerous medications.

It would be our pleasure to discuss if PRP is a therapy that will help you on your path to living your best life.
